Green Forum

Wellington

"...rich in biodiversity of native flora and fauna..."

What it is

The Green Forum is a place for discussion and action; to gather ideas that collectively work towards the vision of Wellington as a centre of excellence in biodiversity and conservation.

Meetings are open to all and held every other month, often in the relaxed informal atmosphere of Meow cafe, Edward Street. The format varies but frequently includes a speaker and a workshop-style engagement on projects and topics of interest to the group.

A central theme is the concept of ecological corridors (Natural Pathways) a vision promoted in an early Branch publication Natural Wellington and carried through into the more recent Branch publication Greening Wellington.

These documents record the collective aspiration of Branch members: to conserve, replenish and enhance the indigenous fauna and flora of Wellington City and its environs.

The Green Forum provides the opportunity to promote these objectives, air current environmental issues and increase our knowledge of local and overseas experiences.

In Context

The Greening Wellington document is the result of a collaborative effort and information gathered from many sources both past and present collected from the wider membership and elsewhere. First published in 2009, Greening Wellington was the catalyst for the Green Forum.

To remain relevant in this changing world Greening Wellington must remain a living entity; continuously reviewed and updated. It is deliberately broad in scope to encourage a holistic view of the many factors that contribute to a “green” Wellington.
