World Wetland Day is worth celebrating, especially since we don’t have much of if left in New Zealand. Easy to drain for farming or houses, over 90% of our wetlands have gone, and with it the habitat for our native birds and insect.

Matuku Link joins World Wetland Day, with a host of activities on Saturday 13rd of February from 10 am to 3 pm. Stalls, food, coffee, walks, talks… the opportunity to see the changes since we bought the property in 2016 and have spend over ten thousand volunteer hours improving the place. All free and all welcome.

Try to find one of our wandering Pateke (brown teal) or spot a secretive banded rail or even our namesake Matuku (bittern), or join one of our guided tours on bugs, birds, eels or flora & fauna.

All day market with gifts, food, art, crafts, information and entertainment from Forest & Bird Waitakere, Birds New Zealand, The Entomological Society, Whitebait Connection, Kauri Rescue, Auckland Council Biodiversity, PestFreeWaitakereRangesAlliance (PFWRA), Sustinnoworkx sustainable produces, Serenity— candles & soaps, Christine Rose Ceramics, Mama Soto— liniments & infusions, Sue Beesley’s Honey, Bethells Beanz coffee, home baking, BBQ— vegan and meat.

We’d love you to join us on this special day. 111 Bethells Road, Te Henga, West Auckland

See you there!
