How to get there
Ngaheretuku Reserve is situated at 196 Twilight Road, 2.5kms north-west of Clevedon, Manukau City, and 28km south-east of Auckland.
The locals
Common indigenous birds found in the reserve include tūī, kererū, North Island fantail, silvereye and grey warbler.
The 15-hectare reserve is set on a steep tract of land that contains significant stands of secondary growth, such as kauri, kahikatea, totara, rimu, taraire, puriri and tanekaha .
As well as containing a mosaic of vegetation types, the reserve has one of the largest kahikatea in the Auckland region, which can be viewed from the road.
Ngaheretuku means “bush gift” or “a gift of native bush”, a name which recognises the gift of the land by Hugh Alexander.
