Regular gifts to help us protect the wonders of New Zealand for future generations.
Payroll giving is an easy and tax efficient way for you to support Forest & Bird. It allows you to make regular donations direct from your pay and automatically receive a tax credit of 33c for every dollar you donate. So if you donated $10 directly through your pay, you’d receive an automatic tax credit of $3.33.
What is payroll giving?
Forest & Bird works to protect our amazing native animals, fragile natural habitats & unique landscapes. From kiwi to Māui’s dolphins, ocean to high-country plateau; we’re working to preserve what makes New Zealand special for future generations. For almost a century, Forest & Bird has been fighting to preserve the natural wonders of New Zealand. We give nature a voice but we can’t do this alone.
Opting in to a payroll giving scheme is a great way for you to support our work and help to make sure the wonders that make New Zealand so special will be there for future generations.
Payroll giving is a scheme administered by employers in New Zealand that allows employees to make regular donations to approved charities. Introduced in 2010, it provides a channel for people to support specific organisations through their regular electronic pay.
As with other charitable donations, people are entitled to a tax credit for all donations made through the payroll giving scheme. However, instead of needing to wait until the end of the year to receive the credit, 33.33 cents for every dollar donated is credited to your pay at the time of the donation.
Which companies can introduce a payroll giving scheme?
As payroll giving is still relatively new to New Zealand, not every employer offers the scheme so ask your manager or HR contact if it is available in your workplace. Any organisation that electronically files their employer monthly schedule and deduction form with the Inland Revenue Department can choose to offer payroll giving to their employees.
JB Hi-Fi leading the way in payroll giving
We are delighted that JB Hi-Fi has chosen to work with Forest & Bird as part of their Helping Hands programme. The programme, started in November 2008 in Australia, was recently introduced into New Zealand and Forest & Bird was chosen to be one of the recipient charities.
JB Hi-Fi recognises its' responsibility to give back to the community. They believe payroll giving is an efficient and effective way to give back. What makes this programme so powerful is that JB Hi-Fi is matching staff contributions dollar-for-dollar, effectively doubling the positive impact to the charities & community. A $10 donation from a JB Hi-Fi employee effectively means that the charity receives $20 and the employee a tax credit of $3.33.
