Arethusa Lodge is a prime spot for watching birdlife amid the peaceful surroundings of our 14-hectare wetland reserve.

The Mangarākau Lodge looks out over the Mangarākau Swamp, which is home to a variety of birdlife including fernbirds and bitterns.

Kayakers, botanisers, birders and trampers will find plenty of activities to do in this region.

Set within Wellington's harbour, Matiu/Somes Island has historically served a variety of purposes from holding enemy aliens' during both World Wars to acting as an animal quarantine station.
