Freshwater is the next target in the coalition Government’s War on Nature. Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and his coalition Government want to take away the world-leading freshwater policy we fought decades for. This legislation was due to come into effect this summer and herald a new dawn in water conservation.
Instead, the Government has signalled it wants to roll back the clock and put the interests of polluting industries above healthy freshwater and communities.
We've got to send a clear message that we won't stand for it and we've got to galvanize other New Zealanders to take action to save our water.
Please give and help us fight for New Zealand’s freshwater!
Right now, our waterways are in a dire state.
- Most rivers and many lakes fall well short of water quality guidelines.
- Levels of nitrate in groundwater in many places – including drinking water sources – continue to increase.
- Most of our native fish (including whitebait) are threatened with or at-risk of extinction.
- We have drained or destroyed almost all wetlands.
Join the fight to demand our Government makes restoring our water quality a priority for our health and wellbeing and for that of our precious nature.
