Zero Bycatch Goal for NZ - Scientists’ declaration

Zero Bycatch Goal for NZ - Scientists’ declaration

The scientists and marine experts below support a
zero bycatch goal for New Zealand’s protected marine species.

Currently protected species bycatch is treated as regrettable, but inevitable. We are told that protected, threatened, or endangered dolphins, sea lions, penguins, albatross, and many other animals have to die if we are to eat seafood. This approach is not working.  The people named below are marine experts. They and Forest & Bird want better policy, stronger commitment, and an end to the preventable deaths of New Zealand’s protected marine animals in commercial fishing nets and on lines and hooks.  You can download Forest & Bird’s ‘Pathway to Zero Bycatch’ here to learn more about how we can get to Zero Bycatch.
