Forest and Bird Nelson Tasman established the Andy Dennis Memorial Scholarship in association with the Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology (NMIT) in 2017. The scholarship ($1000) is awarded annually to a student from the Trainee Ranger course at NMIT, to help with course expenses. Criteria include exhibiting high motivation and the ability to succeed in a career in conservation. We invite the recipient (or recipients) to attend a monthly meeting where we recognise their award.
Andy was a long time member of the Nelson Branch of Forest & Bird and a giant of the New Zealand conservation movement. He was appointed a member of the NZ Order of Merit, in 2015, just before his death in 2016. He is also remembered by the new Mataketake Hut in South Westland.
We think he would be proud to be associated with this scholarship supporting the next generation protecting the environment.
Members can contribute to the scholarship by forwarding contributions to the Forest and Bird Nelson Tasman account (bank no. 38 9011 0211437 00) and notifying the Treasurer of their contribution.
