Join us at the secluded Ronga Reserve, Rai Valley, for our annual planting day. Under the shade of giant totara and matai, we'll be restoring the site with a variety of broadleaf and podocarp species. This year we'll be planting into clearings, and extending our existing plantings to the original DOC restoration sites.
Ronga Reserve is a little known reserve with giant podocarps and is known to host long-tailed bats. Over the last 6 years Forest & Bird branches, along with Nelson/Tasman Weedbusters, have been clearing weeds, planting trees, and recently, tackling possums! Regular working bees help keep our planting in top-top condition.
Join us on site, at 10am on Saturday 31st August, or meet at the Brick Oven in Rai Valley by 9.45am to convoy to the site. You'll need strong footwear and gardening gloves are optional. All other gear, including spades, will be provided. We'll have a BBQ lunch courtesy of DOC, so bring along a salad to share. You'll need your own plates, etc.
Postponed if wet - check our FB page "Ronga Reserve Restoration" or phone 03 545 2431 by 8am for advice. Postponement dates are Sunday 1st September or Saturday 14th September. Please contact 027 741 0195 for carpooling.
