From the 17h April to the 2nd May we want to see your photos of some creepy creatures! We are running this campaign through Instagram, so be sure to tag us in your photos and use the hashtag #CreepyCreaturesNZ. Just a reminder if you are to send it through Instagram, you need to have a public profile so we can see your amazing photo.
If you are wondering what exactly a creepy creature is, then think of all the creepy crawlies in your garden and those little lizards you can rarely see or the fish hiding in the shallow rockpool. For our competition, we are looking for photos of New Zealand animals that are often forgotten about, focussing on invertebrates, reptiles, fish, and bats.
This competition has a twist! Everyone must enter in their photos onto iNaturalist. iNaturalist is a citizen science project that is used to gather data about observations of species around the world. This project has helped to rediscover species, understand population changes, and can help identify new species. We have set up a project under Forest & Bird’s Creepy Creatures to add yourself into and post your observations in there. If you haven’t used iNaturalist before, just be sure to follow the right rules for iNaturalist.
The winner of this competition wins a $200 printing voucher from Photo Warehouse and the runner up gets a $100 printing voucher. The top photos could also be included in the next issue of the Forest & Bird magazine, so please be make sure keep the high-quality image file.
We also want to increase the ability for a wide range of photographs to be used to promote all these wonderfully creepy animals. We are asking for the photos to be placed under the creative commons license, that way they can be used in further campaigns to promote New Zealand animals.
