The 2024 - 2025 Ashley/Rakahuri Braided River Bird Nesting Season

The presentation will be about the 2024 - 2025 nesting season on the Ashley. Photos, maps and graphs will be used to illustrate black-fronted tern (BFT) and wrybill nesting with some coverage of other species. Last season we had a record number of BFT and wrybill nests, but outcomes for BFT were poor. Causes of nesting failure included abandonment (partly due to hare disturbance) cat and Norway rat predation, floods and drying river.

We are calling for nominations for the positions of Chair, Secretary, Treasurer and to join the Branch Committee. If you wish to put your name forward for any of these positions or have any questions, please contact us at northcanterbury.branch@forestandbird.org.nz.
