Dr Imogen Bassett is Principal Advisor in the Biosecurity team at Auckland Council, and has led the development of the council's new Regional Pest Management Plan (RPMS).
In March 2019, Auckland Council adopted a new Regional Pest Management Plan 2019-2029. The plan covers over 400 pest species, including plants, animals and pathogens. The plan represents a 189% increase in investment in protection of Tāmaki Makaurau-Auckland’s natural environment, compared with what was available under the legacy RPMS. Imogen has a research background in invasion ecology and is still an Honorary Research Associate at the University of Auckland. She was also a member of the Prime Minister’s Chief Science Advisor’s two year Science-Policy Exchange. She will discuss highlights of the new plan, key changes from the proposed plan arising through the public submissions process, and what the plan will mean for Waitākere in particular.
