Ian McLean is the Auckland representative for Birds New Zealand, a bird expert and organiser of many local events - from birding days to beach patrols. He will be talking about a very special bird, the kuaka or Godwit. It is about Kuaka/Bar-tailed Godwits, but also touches on other shorebirds that reside in the Manukau Harbour. These birds certainly are long haul champions, one bar-tailed godwit was recorded last October to have flown more than 12,000km from Alaska to New Zealand in 11 days.
