The Hibiscus Coast Branch of Forest & Bird Annual General Meeting will be held on Wednesday 23 March at 7:00 pm 2022. Via Zoom Follow this link to join the meeting
The meeting will be followed by our guest speaker – Dr Andrew Jeffs, Professor of Marine Science at the University of Auckland, who will be talking about The State of the Hauraki Gulf.
Try not to miss this significant presentation. The state of the Gulf effects all our lives. A great many of us use the Gulf for recreation or to earn a living. Ferries ply between the islands and Auckland city centre, easing the congestion on roads and public transport. Most of New Zealand’s imports come by ship through the Hauraki Gulf and the Ports of Auckland. This has major effects on the Gulf and its biology, including over-fishing, underwater noise, runoff from the land, general pollution and the dumping of harbour dredging. Dr Jeff’s talk will touch on all these and what we can do to mitigate the Gulf’s degradation.
Dr Jeffs has a variety of research interests, including aquaculture, lobster biology, the biological role of underwater sounds and restoring mussel populations in New Zealand waters. This is a great opportunity for us nature lovers to learn from someone so close to these important topics.
