Laura Young works for both the Department of Conservation and the Kea Conservation Trust and will present an overview of some recent research and conservation efforts for kea. She will discuss kea numbers and distribution and why they seem to be disappearing from some of our eastern alpine areas, also lead poisoning which is a major issue for kea and what is being done to address this. Laura will also describe the Kea Sightings Database, a citizen science tool which has had tremendous uptake by people all over the South Island, and include some of the findings that people have collected.
Before the main speaker Fraenzi Furigo will present a 10 minute summary on Sea Setting the Stage – the physical parameters influencing life in our oceans.
