We are in the midst of a climate crisis, so why are we still mining coal? This webinar will explore where coal is mined in NZ, where it goes, what it is used for, why we import some coal, and the compelling climate reasons why coal mining has to stop.

Our guest speakers are Cindy Baxter from Coal Action Network Aotearoa and Dr Tim Naish from Victoria University.

Presenter Cindy Baxter of Coal Action Network Aotearoa has worked in climate change for 30 years as an investigative researcher, communicator, blogger and policy advisor. She attended the COP1 in Berlin in 1995 and has worked with Climate Analytics, the Deep Sea Conservation Coalition, and Greenpeace.

Presenter Dr Tim Naish who is a climate scientist at Victoria University, will be joining us fresh from Antarctica, where he leads research focusing on climate change impacts. He also leads New Zealand’s SeaRise project that in 2022 showed that sea levels were rising faster than expected.

This event is being hosted on Zoom. Please register to receive your Zoom link to attend
