A weekend gathering for Forest & Bird North Island branches and all members keen to network, learn and talk conservation, as well as enjoy some interesting field trips. The weekend will be based at the Aongatete Outdoor Education Lodge in the Kaimai Mamaku Conservation Park, where Forest & Bird and the community have been working for over 10 years to restore 500 hectares of the forest.
As well as forests and birds we also care about marine life and this year there will be a marine theme to the weekend. Our speakers will talk about new developments in marine protection at Motiti and the Bay of Plenty and the wider opportunities they offer, how the fisheries quota mangement system works, and what we have learnt from the Rena and marine reserves. There will be both marine/estuarine field trips and forest trips at Aongatete where you wll get enjoy the forest and its inhabitants and talk about pest control and conservation.
A optional boat trip on Sunday to explore the Motiti marine area will be offered if there is sufficient interest. Cost $50 per person. Dependent on weather and on a minimum of 20 bookings.
