Protecting Tūturiwhatu on Rakiura - by Sam Lincoln.
Sam Lincoln will talk about her time on Rakiura (Stewart Island) working for the Department of Conservation protecting Tūturiwhatu (southern NZ dotterel).
Sam is of Ngāti Porou (Ngāti Hau) descent and is the current manager of the Ark in the Park. She completed her MSc in Biosecurity and Conservation in 2016 at the University of Auckland, focussing on some of the dynamics between rat and cat populations in urban green spaces across Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland). From controlling pest plants and rats across Auckland, to protecting Tūturiwhatu on Rakiura, Sam is well acquainted with our ngahere and its inhabitants and has an extensive range of experience in the field. With a strong drive to restore and protect our native ecosystems, Sam is always on the lookout for new networks, studies, and technologies to best care for Ark in the Park.
