Once numbering just 52 birds, the Chatham Island oystercatcher population now stands at around 300 birds due to predator control and habitat protection. Our speaker, Maddy Pye, is a postgraduate student at the University of Otago studying a Masters of Wildlife Management. In the summer of 2019-2020 she was part of a joint project between Massey University and DOC to assess the predation threats and disturbances faced by the Chatham Island oystercatcher while on the nest. Maddy's talk will show us the results of this project along with the latest on the status of this highly endangered bird.
