Technoecology: Being ‘bad with technology’ to understand our natural world
Rebecca Rogers – Lecturer, School of Science, Auckland University of Technology
Rebecca is a lecturer geospatial science and a techno-ecologist. That is, she is interested in using emerging technology to solve complex ecological data problems that improve our understanding of wildlife, the environment and our lives. This includes uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAV or drones), GIS, tracking devices, weather radar and more. In this talk, she will walk you through her journey into the field of technecology with a series of stories based on different technology that she had no idea how to use or just really messed up somehow. Through these stories you will learn about some of the ways we use technology to better understand our world and why it is valuable to ‘be bad with technology’.
