Tell the Environment Committee to pause Fast-track

Tell the Environment Committee to pause Fast-track

THIS FORM IS NOW CLOSED TO SUBMISSIONS.

To Government members of the Environment Committee:
Scott Simpson (National MP), Mike Butterick (National MP), Katie Nimon (National MP), Simon Court (ACT MP), Hamish Campbell (National MP),

I am writing to ask you to delay reporting back to Parliament on the Fast-track Approvals Bill until you can re-open and hear public submissions on the Schedule 2 project list.

This list of 149 projects includes developments that are likely to cause significant environmental harm and impose risks on local communities.

Bypassing public consultation and overriding environmental laws means fast-track projects will have very little scrutiny.  And once the bill is passed, these projects will almost certainly proceed, in spite of the dangers they pose.

Given the high stakes and the legacy of secrecy surrounding these fast-track projects to date, it's vital the public and MPs are provided with the opportunity to fully scrutinise the projects prior to any vote on their inclusion. The appropriate place for this to occur is the Environment Committee. So please, re-open public consultation and delay reporting back on the bill.
