Earlier this week the Minister of Conservation announced an amendment to the Tīkapa Moana / Hauraki Gulf Marine Protection Bill that will allow commercial fishing in new High Protection Areas.
The bill, which creates new marine protected areas across Tīkapa Moana, is an incredibly important step forward for revitalising our precious taonga. We urge Prime Minister Christopher Luxon to intervene and instruct ministers and officials to stop work on the proposed amendment to the bill.
Our message is clear: high protection areas are for our taonga species, not for commercial fishing!
Join us for this family-friendly event as we hear from speakers, capture messages in the sand, and show our aroha for Tīkapa Moana. Bring your banners, signs, songs, friends and whānau. See you there!
