Weeds covering native plants

This urban park project started in early 2024 in partnership with the Rotorua Lakes Council and the BOP
Regional Council. The vision is to have an oasis of mature native plants that will provide habitat for native fauna and contribute to good water quality in the Mangakakahi Stream and the other waterways that are in the Park. It will enable birds to extend their range from the bush on the slopes of Mt Ngongotaha. It will also provide good aesthetics to people who use the Park for recreational purposes.
We will achieve this vision by releasing existing native trees from climbing weeds, removing
exotic trees and weeds, removing litter, and planting more native plants as sites become ready. Working bees are held on the fourth Saturday of the month, and the Care Group team is open to providing community service opportunities for organisations that are looking for something to do. We are happy to include interested people in our team so please get in touch.
