Mangaroa Wetland is a 300ha peatland in Mangarao Valley. We are currently trying to get this area protected as a Significant Natural Area and have all farming and development activity stopped. The wetland is a significant and effective carbon sink, water purifier and natural wonder. We would like to rewet the area and have it as reserve with board walks and educational information boards. We would like to have the area returned to its natural environment providing habitat for fish, birds and small aquatic invertebrates.
