Horowhenua branch members do monthly surveys at the mouth of Kuku Estuary.

Here we monitor a number of bird species such as godwits, terns, black swans, finches, gulls and dotterel.

Local conservation group Manaaki Taha Moana are working to protect bird species in the estuary mouth by only allowing walking access to the beach, with a view to having trail bikes and four-wheel-drive vehicles banned.

Nature needs your support

Supporting Forest & Bird is one of the best things you can do for New Zealand's environment. We need people like you to support us, so that nature will always have a voice.
