Wellington Branch
N.B. This is not National Office. To contact Forest & Bird's National Office (in Wellington) CLICK HERE.
The Branch's geographic area aligns roughly with that of Wellington City Council from the south coast to the Porirua City boundary in the north.
We have over 1,000 members and a history of achieving important outcomes for the city's environment -- our members being the catalyst for much of this success. It is the diverse range of projects that we undertake that illustrate the breadth of our involvement in Wellington’s natural capital.
We engage with our City and Regional Councils to improve our open spaces, too; keep our harbour and coastline safe for penguin and other vulnerable species; improve the condition of our streams and forest remnant -- for the benefit of the wildlife that depend on them.
We have occasional guided walks and a well-supported regional tramping group.
Our Vision: Green corridors have been restored, supporting biodiverse wildlife on the land and in the waters and sea of te Whanganui-a-Tara /Wellington.
Our Mission: To protect and restore natural ecosystems and native flora and fauna of te Whanganui-a-Tara /Wellington.

Tūao | Volunteer
- If you would like to volunteer and help us care for, and preserve our natural world, please make contact, we welcome that help. The Branch has both long-term and short duration projects as well as ongoing activities that you can be involved in, whether it's casual or regular, either way it's appreciated no matter your ability or experience.
If being a volunteer is new to you, we can assure you that you are joining an increasing number of people who enjoy the satisfaction of knowing they are making the change that will save and restore our natural environment and thus build a brighter future for Aotearoa.
A great way to meet like-minded people is as a volunteer. You join a community of individuals from all walks of life and all ages with a wide range of skills, interests and experience, in which you will develop new friendships. Below are a number of ways you can be part of the action.
